Pietro Fittipaldi remplace Grosjean à Sahkir
Haas remplace donc Grosjean , forfait après son effroyable accident de dimanche dernier, pour le prochain GP à Sakhir par le Brésilien Pietro Fittipaldi, petit-fils du double champion du monde de F1 Emerson Fittipaldi.
« Ce n’est pas la meilleure des circonstances, mais l’important est que Romain se porte bien. Cela aurait pu être bien pire. Dieu merci, il va bien », a indiqué Pietro Fittipaldi.
« Je suis prêt, pour moi c’est incroyable. Depuis petit, tout pilote rêve de piloter en Formule 1 », a poursuivi Fittipaldi, 24 ans, ajoutant qu’il allait faire « de (son) mieux » dimanche à Sakhir, sur un tracé toutefois différent de celui du GP du Bahreïn.
C’est « génial de suivre le chemin » de son grand-père Emerson Fittipaldi, qui avait conquis le titre mondial en F1 en 1972 et 1974, a indiqué le Brésilien, pilote de réserve Haas dont l’oncle Christian et le grand-oncle Wilson ont également couru en F1.
Fittipaldi pourrait aussi participer à l’ultime GP de la saison, le dimanche 13 décembre à Abou Dabi (Emirats arabes unis), si Grosjean n’avait pas assez récupéré. Mais celui-ci confirme qu’il fera tout pour être au départ à Abu Dhabi pour un dernier GP qui aurait tellement de saveur.
Test positif pour Lewis Hamilton, forfait pour le GP de Sakhir
Ensuite survient l’annonce du test positif au corona de Lewis Hamilton, après quelques symptômes constatés hier à Bahreïn. Le voilà donc en isolement, forfait pour le second GP de Bahreïn et peut-être même pour Abou Dhabi vu les règles sanitaires très strictes en vigueur dans l’Emirat.
Alors qui pour remplacer Hamilton ?
Le pilote de réserve officiel, c’est Stoffel Vandoorne, mais il est actuellement en essais avec Mercedes en Formula E à Valence.
George Russell, membre de la famille Mercedes, pourrait avoir là l’opportunité de démontrer ce qu’il peut faire avec une monoplace meilleure que sa Williams.
Nico Hulkenberg est dans les parages et qui a déjà pris du service lors des tests positifs de Perez et Stroll chez Racing Point.
On attend donc… la décision de Mercedes qui est face à un choix cornélien. S’ils choisissent un très bon et qu’il gagne dimanche prochain, les fans pourraient dire voilà quel que soit le pilote, c’est Mercedes qui gagne, et s’il choisissent un pilote « moyen » et qu’il termine derrière Bottas, ils diront vous voyez que c’est Hamilton qui nous fait gagner ??? Vaste débat pour les aficionados d’Hamilton.
Nikita Mazepin officialisé chez Haas en 2021
Puis ensuite Haas confirme Nikita Mazepin pour l’année prochaine. Le 4e russe en F1, avant sans doute d’officialiser Mick Schumacher. L’écurie et surtout Ferrari aimeraient bien coupler cette annonce avec le titre en F2.
L’écurie présice, « un contrat de plusieurs années », a annoncé l’équipe américaine dans un communiqué.
« Être pilote de Formule 1 est un rêve qui se réalise », commente Mazepin dans ce communiqué.
« J’apprécie la confiance que me témoignent Gene Haas (le propriétaire de l’écurie, ndlr), Guenther Steiner (son team principal, ndlr) et toute l’équipe. »
« Ils donnent une opportunité à un jeune pilote et je les en remercie », poursuit-il. « L’équipe se tournera vers moi pour obtenir des retours et des contributions afin d’améliorer sa voiture en 2021 et au-delà. J’assumerai cette responsabilité et j’ai hâte de commencer. »
Mazepin, passé du karting à la monoplace fin 2014, a été vice-champion de GP3 (l’ancêtre du championnat de F3) en 2018, avant d’être promu en F2 en 2019.
A une manche de la fin de saison (ce week-end à Bahreïn), il est 3e au classement des pilotes à 29 points du 2e et 43 du 1er, avec deux victoires et quatre podiums supplémentaires à son crédit.
Le leader du classement de la F2, l’Allemand Mick Schumacher, le fils de Michael, est pressenti pour être son équipier l’an prochain, mais aucune annonce n’a pour l’heure été faite concernant le pilote, de 21 ans également.

Mercedes :
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team regrets to announce that Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to take part in this weekend’s Sakhir GP.
Lewis was tested three times last week and returned a negative result each time, the last of which was on Sunday afternoon at the Bahrain International Circuit as part of the standard race weekend testing programme.
However, he woke up on Monday morning with mild symptoms and was informed at the same time that a contact prior to arrival in Bahrain had subsequently tested positive. Lewis therefore took a further test and returned a positive result. This has since been confirmed by a retest.
Lewis is now isolating in accordance with COVID-19 protocols and public health authority guidelines in Bahrain. Apart from mild symptoms, he is otherwise fit and well, and the entire team sends him its very best wishes for a swift recovery.

Haas F1 Team Confirms Fittipaldi for Sakhir Grand Prix
Brazilian Test & Reserve Driver Set for Formula 1 Debut
Pietro Fittipaldi will make his Formula 1 debut
with Haas F1 Team in the Sakhir Grand Prix, Sunday 6 December, subbing for the injured Romain Grosjean.
Grosjean sustained hand injuries during last weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix and is unable to compete in Round
16 of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship hosted at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Fittipaldi (24), has attended the majority of Formula 1 races this season in his test and reserve driver role with
the team – the Miami-born Brazilian holding a career resume which includes a Formula V8 3.5 Championship
title and several starts in IndyCar Series competition. Grandson of two-time FIA Formula 1 World Champion
and double Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi, Pietro has tested previously with Haas F1 Team in its VF-18 in
2018 and the VF-19 in 2019. Friday’s opening practice sessions in Bahrain will mark the first time behind the
wheel of the VF-20 this season for Fittipaldi.
“After it was decided that the best thing for Romain (Grosjean) was to skip at least one race, the choice to put
Pietro (Fittipaldi) in the car was pretty easy,” stated team principal Guenther Steiner. “Pietro will drive the VF20 and he’s familiar with us having been around the team for the past two seasons as a test and reserve
driver. It’s the right thing to do and it’s obviously a good opportunity for him. He’s been patient and was always
prepared for this opportunity – and now it has come. That’s why we want him in the car and I’m sure he’ll do a
good job. It’s very demanding being called in at the last minute, but as I said, I think it’s the right thing to do for
Haas F1 Team.”
“Most importantly I’m happy Romain (Grosjean) is safe and healthy,” remarked Pietro Fittipaldi. “We’re all very
happy his injuries are relatively minor after such a huge incident. Obviously, it’s not an ideal set of

this season, both trackside and working on simulator sessions, so I’m familiar with the team’s operating

Nikita Mazepin to Race for Haas F1 Team
Russian Formula 2 Race Winner Signs with American Squad
F1 Team has confirmed Russia’s Nikita Mazepin
will drive for the American outfit in a multi-year deal starting with the 2021 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
Mazepin (21) currently sits third overall in the Formula 2 driver standings. The Russian, in his second season
in Formula 1’s official feeder category, has two Feature Race wins to his credit at Silverstone and Mugello, with
four additional podiums and two fastest race laps adding to his stellar 2020 campaign. In a hotly contested
Formula 2 season, Mazepin climbed to third in the points courtesy of a second-place finish in Sunday’s Round
11 Sprint race at Bahrain International Circuit. The Hitech Grand Prix driver will compete in the Formula 2
season finale next weekend, also in Bahrain, before making the move up to Formula 1 with Haas F1 Team.
“I’m delighted that Nikita Mazepin will be driving for Haas F1 Team next season,” stated Guenther Steiner,
Team Principal of Haas F1 Team. “Nikita has underlined his credentials in Formula 2 this year with a brace of
victories and a handful of podiums in what’s been a strong sophomore season for him. He’s developed into a
mature racer moving up through the junior ranks – notably most recently in the GP3 Series, where he finished

Mazepin graduated from karting into cars in 2015 – competing in Formula Renault 2.0 NEC. Two seasons
followed in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship before a move into the GP3 Series in 2018. Mazepin
finished as runner-up in the title fight that season with four wins, his success leading the way to Formula 2 in
- Mazepin has recent Formula 1 test experience – the Moscow-born racer topping the timesheets in
Barcelona’s second in-season test day in May 2019 driving for Mercedes.
