#41 Oreca 07 – Gibson / TEAM WRT / Louis Deletraz / Robert Kubica / Yifei Ye, P1

Start of the 4 hours of Red Bull Ring

#25 Aurus 01 – Gibson / G-DRIVE RACING / John Falb / Rui Andrade / Roberto Merhi, P3

#41 Oreca 07 – Gibson / TEAM WRT / Louis Deletraz / Robert Kubica / Yifei Ye, conditions apocalyptiques.

#65 PANIS RACING (FRA) – ORECA 07/GIBSON – LMP2 – JULIEN CANAL (FRA) / WILLIAM STEVENS (GBR) / JAMES ALLEN (AUS), P14

#19 Ligier JS P320 – Nissan / COOL RACING / Nicolas Maulini / Matthew Bell / Niklas Kruetten, P1

#11 Ligier JS P320 – Nissan / EUROINTERNATIONAL / Andrea Dromedari / Cem Bolukbasi / Joey Alders, P2

LMP2: ORLEN TEAM WRT MAKE IT TWO FROM TWO IN AUSTRIA

The no41 Orlen Team WRT Oreca-Gibson scored a second victory of the 2021 season, taking the chequered flag at the end of a dramatic 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring ahead of the two G-Drive Racing Aurus Gibsons.

The race started in glorious sunshine but after two hours of racing heavy rain arrived and cars started to slide off the track bringing out the safety car. The rain abated but on a damp but drying track, tyre choice proved to be critical in the final hour of the race.

The no34 Racing Team Turkey Oreca-Gibson of Salih Yoluc started on pole position and led the 41-car grid across the line to start the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring.

John Falb in the no25 G-Drive Racing Aurus-Gibson took the lead after the first corner from 4th on the grid. Later in the race the American had to serve a drive through penalty as he was judged to have gained an advantage by running wide at the first corner in the melee.

The no32 United Autosports Oreca-Gibson of Nicolas Jamin moved into second and kept pace with the leading no25 Aurus.

At Turn 3 three LMP3 cars collided bringing out the first Safety Car to clear the debris. This lasted nearly 10 minutes before racing resumed.

At the restart Phil Hanson in the no22 United Autosports Oreca was making up places from 8th on the grid, moving ahead of Yoluc to take 3rd position. Hanson then set off to catch his French teammate, setting the fastest lap of the race with a 1m22.390.

Jamin passes Falb for the lead on lap 14 at T3, with Hanson immediately closing behind the no25 G-Drive Racing Aurus, moving into second at T9 on the next lap.

On lap 20 the no25 Aurus was served a drive through penalty for overtaking beyond track limits and promptly came into the pits.

Yifei Ye was back up to third after a poor start in the no41 Orlen Team WRT Oreca, with Roman Rusinov in the no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus moving up to 4th at the expense of the no34 Racing Team Turkey Oreca.

At the first pitstops the no32 Oreca was leading, with Jamin handing over to Manuel Maldonado. The no22 car also came in at the same time but Hanson had to come back into the pits after a drive through penalty was issued for constant abuse of Track Limits. The no26 G-Drive Aurus of Nyck De Vries was now leading, with the no41 Team WRT in second and the two United Autosports Orecas in third and fourth.

With just over an hour of racing completed Hanson caught and passed Maldonado for third at T1 but the Venezuelan got a better exit and retook the position at T3.It would take another 10 minutes before Hanson could make the move again and make it stick.

After the second stops De Vries had opened a 30 second lead over Robert Kubica, who was now behind the wheel of the Team WRT Oreca.

Jonathan Aberdein, now in the no22 United Autosports Oreca closed the gap to Kubica in the no41 Oreca.

With 1 hour and 50 minutes left on the clock it started to rain and within 10 minutes the rain became very heavy. Some cars tried to stay out on slicks while others opted to pit for intermediates or full wets. With several cars sliding off the track, including the no32 United Autosports Oreca, which sustained heavy front end damage, the Safety Car was deployed with 1 hour and 32 minutes of the race to run.

The Safety Car remained on track while the rain abated and, with the clock showing 57 minutes remaining, racing resumed.Just before the green flag G-Drive brought the no26 Aurus in for intermediate tyres and when racing resumed the no41 Oreca of Robert Kubica was leading by 39 seconds from the no26 Aurus of Franco Colapinto, with Tom Gamble in the no22 Oreca in third, 1 lap behind the leading two cars.

Roberto Mehri in the no25 G-Drive Racing Aurus passed the no29 Ultimate Oreca of Matthieu Lahaye to move into 4th place and into the lead of the LMP2 Pro-Am category.Mehri then caught and passed Gamble in the no22 Oreca to move into third on the exit of Turn 3.

With 43 minutes remaining Kubica handed the no41 Oreca over to Louis Deletraz, which put Colapinto into the lead in the no26 Aurus. However, the 17-year-old Argentine needed to pit for a splash of fuel before the end of the race.

Colapinto pitted with 27 minutes on the clock and emerged from the pits just ahead of Deletraz and was now back in the lead of the race. Deletraz and Colapinto battled for the lead for the next 15 minutes but the no26 Aurus was clearly struggling for grip and Deletraz pounced at Turn 3 diving down the inside on the exit to take the lead.

The no22 United Autosports Oreca was given another penalty for crossing the white line on pit entry, dropping Gamble down the order to seventh.

At the chequered flag the no41 Orlen Team WRT Oreca of Louis Deletraz took the chequered flag 21.5 seconds ahead of the no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus, with 17-year-old Franco Colapinto at the wheel, with Roberto Mehri taking the final podium spot for G-Drive in the no25 Aurus.

The no25 Aurus also claimed the top spot in the Pro-Am category, finishing 1 lap ahead of the 4th placed no34 Racing Team Turkey Oreca of Logan Sargeant and the 5th placed, and round 1 Pro-Am winners, no29 Ultimate Oreca of Matthieu Lahaye.

LMP3 : COOL RACING SNATCH SECOND WIN OF 2021 SEASON AT THE RED BULL RING

The no19 Cool Racing Ligier-Nissan took a last gasp victory in the 4 Hours of Red Bull Ring after the no8 Graff Ligier of David Droux, which was leading, was served a stop and go penalty on the last few laps for not respecting the minimum reference time for the pitstops.

Matt Bell, whose rain tyres were not proving much grip in the drying conditions after the earlier heavy rain storm, crossed the line just 0.117s ahead of the no11 Eurointernational Ligier of Joey Alders, with the no8 Graff being given a 43 second penalty and classified in third.

The no4 DKR Engineering Duqueine-Nissan of Jean-Philippe Dayraut started at the head of the 16 car LMP3 field but problem on the first lap had the French driver heading to the pits at the end of the opening lap.

The no2 United Autosports Ligier of Rob Wheldon took the lead from 2nd on the grid.

The no20 Team Virage Ligier of Rob Hodes spun across the track at the entrance to Turn 3, spearing the car into the path of the no18 1 Aim Villorba Corse Ligier and one other car, causing irreparable damage to the no20 and no18 Ligiers and spreading debris across the track. The Safety Car was deployed to recover the two stricken cars and to clean the track.

At the restart the no2 United Autosports Ligier was in the lead with the no19 Cool Racing Ligier of Nicolas Maulini in second and the no3 United Autosports Ligier of Andrew Bentley in third.

Colin Noble in the no7 Nielsen Racing Ligier had started 13th but was making massive progress up the field. After 20 minutes of racing the Scot was up to third, just 1.9 seconds behind Maulini’s Cool Racing Ligier.

Two laps later Noble was into second place and then took the lead from Rob Wheldon after 36 minutes of racing.

Maulini lost third place when the no13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier of Ulysse De Pauw went ahead. Maulini gained the place back when the Belgian driver was given a drive through penalty for exceeding track limits.

The no2 United Autosports Ligier regained the lead in the next set of pitstops, with Tony Wells taking over from Colin Noble in the no7 Ligier. Wheldon pulled out a 30 second lead over Maulini as the race hit the halfway points of 2 hours.

The two leading cars came into the pits just before the heavy rain started to fall, which brought out the Safety Car as several cars slide off the track in the tricky conditions.

After 35 minutes behind the Safety Car the race went green with the no2 United Autosports Ligier, now with Edouard Cauhaupe at the wheel, leading from Turkish driver Cem Bolukbasi in the no11 Eurointernational Ligier in second and the no19 Cool Racing Ligier of Niklas Kruetten in third.

However, the no2 Ligier exited the pitlane under a red light and was given a penalty, putting the no11 Ligier in the lead.

David Droux in the no8 Graff Ligier was making progress and was up to third place.

Matt Bell took over the driving duties for the final part of the race in the no19 Cool Racing Ligier, but the wet tyres were struggling for grip on the drying track. Droux caught and challenged Bell for the lead, passing the no19 Ligier with 8 minutes left on the clock.

However, the no8 Graff Ligier was given a stop and go penalty in the final few minutes, which was converted to a 43 second post-race penalty.

Joey Alders in the no11 Eurointernational Ligier was also catching the struggling Matt Bell, with the Dutch driver getting right up to the no19 Ligier as they took the chequered flag. The gap was just 0.117 seconds in favour of Bell in a photo finish.

The no88 AF Corse Ferrari of Francois Perrodo started at the head of the 9 car LMGTE grid.

The start saw the no80 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Matteo Cressoni take the lead as the Safety Car was deployed to clear the two LMP3 cars and debris at Turn 3.

The battle for 4thspot was raging between the no66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari of Rodrigo Sales and the no83 Iron Lynx Ferrari of Manuela Gostner, with Gostner moving up a place with a move at Turn 3.

The no88 Ferrari was given a drive through penalty after Perrodo exceeded track limits once too often.Perrodo rejoined behind Gostner and promptly took the place from the Italian at Turn 3 with 1 hour of racing completed.

After the first set of pitstops the no80 Ferrari had Rino Mastronardi on board and was ahead of the no88 AF Corse 488, which still had Perrodo at the helm, with Duncan Cameron in the no55 Ferrari in third.

Richard Lietz took over in the no93 Proton Competition Porsche from Michael Fassbender and the Austrian promptly started to move up the field on his home track.Lietz moved up to second spot before he handed the Porsche to Felipe Laser.

Heavy rain started to fall and the Safety Car was deployed when several cars slid off the track into the gravel traps or into the tyre wall.

At the restart with just 57 minutes left on the clock the no88 AF Corse Ferrari of Alessio Rovera was leading, with the no80 Ferrari of Miguel Molina in second and the no83 Ferrari of Rahel Frey in third, with David Perel in the no55 Ferrari in 4th.

The final set of pitstops saw the no80 Ferrari briefly hold the lead but with less than 30 minutes remaining the no80 pitted and the no88 488 regained the lead.

The no83 Iron Lynx Ferrari was given a drive through penalty for crossing the white line at pit entry.

Perel was making progress in the no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari and after the last stops was up to second ahead of the Molina in the no80 Iron Lynx 488.
